Travel Itinerary

Day 1 - Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) → Arusha

Your guide meets you on arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport for the drive to Arusha, where the night is spent before the parks begin the next day. ROUTE MAIN EXPERIENCE MEALS OVERNIGHT Kilimanjaro Airport → Arusha Arrival transfer Lodging only Forest Hill Hotel or Lake Duluti Lodge

Day 2 - Arusha National Park

A half-day in Arusha National Park, a smaller and less-visited park than the ones ahead but known for its flamingos, giraffes, zebra, and colobus monkeys — a gentler introduction before the longer days further into the circuit. Lunch is packed for the park, with the afternoon free back at the lodge.

Day 3 - Arusha → Tarangire National Park

Today marks the real start of the route: Tarangire, defined by a single meandering river that keeps wildlife within reach even through the driest months. Big elephant herds are the headline act, though giraffe, zebra, and a long list of smaller species round out a typical day. ROUTE Arusha → Tarangire National Park MAIN EXPERIENCE Arrival and first game drive MEALS Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner OVERNIGHT Tarangire Safari Lodge or Tarangire Nature Luxury Camp

Day 4 - Tarangire National Park

Tarangire gets a second day here, unlike a lot of shorter itineraries that pass through once and move on. That extra time means less driving to cover ground and more time actually parked somewhere worth watching. ROUTE Tarangire National Park MAIN EXPERIENCE Full day in the park MEALS Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner OVERNIGHT Tarangire Safari Lodge or Tarangire Nature Luxury Camp

Day 5 - Tarangire → Mto wa Mbu → Karatu

The drive toward Karatu is broken up with a short walk through Mto wa Mbu town and time at a Maasai homestead — less a scheduled photo stop, more an actual conversation about daily life in this stretch of the Rift Valley. Lunch is taken in town before the drive continues. ROUTE MAIN EXPERIENCE MEALS OVERNIGHT Tarangire → Mto wa Mbu → Karatu Town walk and Maasai cultural visit Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Nyota Rift Valley or Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge

Day 6 - Ngorongoro Crater

Breakfast comes as a box for the early climb up into the highlands and down onto the crater floor. What sets a day here apart is density rather than distance — the same enclosed basin holds the wildlife close enough that a single morning can cover more ground, species-wise, than a full day almost anywhere else. Lunch back in Karatu closes out the afternoon. ROUTE MAIN EXPERIENCE MEALS OVERNIGHT Ngorongoro Highlands → Crater floor → Karatu Full-day crater floor game drive Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Nyota Rift Valley or Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge

Day 7 - Karatu → Central Serengeti National Park

The drive into central Serengeti takes up most of the day, with lunch somewhere along the way rather than at a fixed stop. What the statistics don't fully capture until you're actually there: this is the single largest concentration of plains game left on the continent, and that holds true whether or not the migration happens to be passing through. ROUTE Karatu → Central Serengeti MAIN EXPERIENCE Arrival and first game drive MEALS Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner OVERNIGHT Moyo Luxury Tented Camp or Land of Nature Luxury Camps

Day 8 - Central Serengeti National Park

A full second day, loose enough to follow whatever's active — lion and leopard are realistic sightings regardless of season, with resident herds of elephant, giraffe, and assorted antelope filling in the rest of the picture. ROUTE Central Serengeti National Park MAIN EXPERIENCE Full day game drive MEALS Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner OVERNIGHT Moyo Luxury Tented Camp or Land of Nature Luxury Camps

Day 9 - Central → Northern Serengeti

The route pushes north today, with a packed lunch en route, toward the stretch of the Serengeti where the Mara River becomes the migration's defining obstacle each September. As the dry season tightens, wildebeest and zebra gather at the water's edge before crossing — dangerous water, real currents, and no guarantee of when or where a crossing will happen on a given day. ROUTE Central → Northern Serengeti MAIN EXPERIENCE Drive north toward the Mara River MEALS Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner OVERNIGHT Moyo Tented Migration Camp or Enkutoto Tented Camp

Day 10 - Northern Serengeti (Mara River)

A full day positioned around the river itself. September is also when predator activity concentrates here — lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena all follow the herds this far north, so the day can turn up far more than the crossings alone. Nothing about timing or location can be promised; the crossings happen on the migration's schedule, not a fixed itinerary. ROUTE MAIN EXPERIENCE MEALS OVERNIGHT Northern Serengeti, Mara River area Full day positioned for river crossings Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Moyo Tented Migration Camp or Enkutoto Tented Camp A GUIDE'S PERSPECTIVE Crossings can't be scheduled — herds sometimes gather at the bank for hours before doing anything. That waiting is part of it. We'd rather stay and let it unfold than move on and miss it.

Day 11 - Kogatende → Arusha → Kilimanjaro Airport

The flight out of Kogatende connects back to Arusha, where there's time to browse the craft stalls at a heritage centre before the final stretch — roughly two hours — to Kilimanjaro Airport for your international connection. ROUTE MAIN EXPERIENCE MEALS Kogatende → Arusha → Kilimanjaro Airport Flight and road transfer, departure Breakfast, Lunch
