From Baobabs to the Mara – Tarangire · Ngorongoro Crater · Serengeti · Lake Eyasi

An early departure for the descent into the Ngorongoro Crater floor — one of the most concentrated wildlife areas in Africa, held within the walls of an ancient volcanic caldera. A full day of game viewing on the crater floor before climbing back out and continuing on toward the Serengeti, arriving in time to settle into camp for the night. The landscape changes noticeably heading north — open Serengeti plains give way to riverine country as the route approaches the Mara. Depending on the season, the far north of the Serengeti can offer opportunities to witness the wildebeest migration and, when timing allows, river crossings — though as with all wild movement, this is never something that can be promised on a fixed date. Settle into camp for two nights in the north, positioned to make the most of whatever the migration is doing during your stay.

No driving between parks today — just the northern Serengeti, following wherever the herds and the predator activity around them lead. This region sees far fewer vehicles than the central and southern Serengeti, and the day is built around time and patience rather than a set circuit — staying with a promising area for as long as it holds interest. Heading back south now, into central Serengeti, with game viewing along the way as the landscape opens back into classic Serengeti plains. Arrive in central Serengeti in the afternoon, home to some of the park's most reliable resident wildlife and a good base for the final full game-viewing day ahead. Central Serengeti's Seronera area is today's focus, known for consistent sightings of lion, leopard, and a wide range of plains game, before the drive back toward Karatu begins. Drive to Lake Eyasi for a cultural morning with the Datoga, known for their metalworking traditions, and the Hadzabe, whose hunter-gatherer way of life has largely disappeared elsewhere on the continent. This is a chance to walk alongside members of these communities and see ways of life that have continued largely unchanged for generations, rather than a staged performance. Afterward, drive to Arusha for onward flights. The exact timing of this final day will depend on your departure flight — your guide can adjust the length of the cultural visit accordingly. ROUTE Karatu → Lake Eyasi → Arusha OVERNIGHT — FROM THE BUSH Lake Eyasi is often treated as an afterthought tacked onto the end of a safari, but the Datoga and Hadzabe communities here have as much to teach about Tanzania as any game drive does. Guests who go in without rushing tend to leave with a different picture of the country than the one the parks alone give them.
